This photo was captured in August when I visited Kinmen Island, which was once a major battleground between Taiwan and the PRC. I was stationed on the island for one year, from 1973 to 1974, and this past summer was my first visit since I left in 1974.
I was drawn to the scene by the mist surrounding the 3.5-mile-long bridge crossing the narrow strait between Great Kinmen and “Little” Kinmen Island, as well as the defensive barriers on the beach.
Camera & Post:
Captured with a Lumix G9 II and a Leica 12??“60 mm lens at 1/3200 sec, f/3.7, ISO 100. Processed in Lightroom with tonal adjustments and selective dodging and burning using masks. Noise reduction was applied using Topaz Photo AI.

Before I read the description, I thought it was a battle field. 1. Thank you for your service and 2. I like how it pulls you in.   Posted: 10/06/2026 10:46:20

I like your composition with the layering of the foliage in the foreground, then the beach, and up to the sky. Nice job. The defensive elements in the tidal flats in my opinion do a good job in conveying that this is a battle field scene, at peace for a moment. I think the bridge disappearing in the fog is a nice touche.   Posted: 10/16/2026 15:49:23

Must have been surreal being back there after a long time.
I too like the composition and the layers.
Curious as to why you chose a high shutter speed and small aperture. Was it that you wanted the focus to fall off from the foreground?   Posted: 10/17/2026 15:53:18

Firstly. Wow what story telling image. Love the contrast between the Modern bridge and the remnants of the war in the foreground. One could be hyper critical about the foliage in the front. But I dont care the image as is carry the story and that is all that matters. again Wow   Posted: 10/18/2026 08:59:08

This whole image is great story telling. I love how the layers work foreground middle ground and background. I also thought about commenting on the foliage. The story telling outweighs any nit picking I would do.
