About the Image(s)

Description - Originally this image was in color, but as an experiment I converted it in black and white, and I think I like it even more now without any distractions from all the colors. As usual here I used natural light and behind the model was a dark tunnel that gave this dark black background effect.
For conversion I always use Channel Mixer in monochrome and play with red and blue channels there
Camera settings - Nikon D800, 105 mm, f/3.5, 1/400s, ISO 250

I agree. This is a compelling portrait in BnW. The freckles are so nice and add much to the character.   Posted: 10/07/2026 12:24:35

I do like the B & W! Her expression tells a story along with her soulful eyes.   Posted: 10/09/2026 17:05:23

This is lovely image in B&W, Hanna.

The highlights from the metal in the left (subject's right) epaulette, distracts from the subject's hands and bracelet. Consider lowering the highlights - or, removing it. It probably would not be missed.
A charming portrait!   Posted: 10/15/2026 22:11:46

Wow! Nice work!
The portrait captures a slight hint of melancholy as the camera sharply focuses directly on the eyes. There is a nice contrast between her freckled skin and the glossy leather jacket. Her hair, arms, and hands create a frame around her face. The intertwined fingers holding a clump of hair lend an air of vulnerability.
Although the left side of the jacket and hair melt together, I like it because the focus of the image is the face, and that's all we need.
I see what you are saying, Elsie, but I think the bracelets and epaulettes provide a personal element to the image, contrasting nicely with the dark jacket.

Love your images. I would darken the bright spots on the epaulettes as they are distracting. I would not touch the bracelet.   Posted: 10/16/2026 18:58:03

Hanna: Three clicks with the spot remover on the three epaulette reflections and you have a perfect photo!   Posted: 10/18/2026 14:28:59
