About the Image(s)

I recently visited a Tractor Club event where old tractors are paraded and displayed. The club also demonstrates old threshing equipment. I chose a sepia tone for a vintage look, since it’s an old-time event with vintage equipment. Tech stuff: f/4, 1/8000 sec., ISO 720, 35mm focal length, Auto ISO, Auto Aperture.

A great old piece of equipment to photograph. I often think sepia can be a bit of a 'gimmick' unless it suits the subject, but I think it works here. A few things I noticed. There is a slight ghosting around the stack which was not in the original, so it looks like a processing artefact. The two guys in yellow become white in the final image so they look quite prominent, but they do not fit the vintage vibe. Is there a way to darken them down in the mono transfer? I also wondered why you cropped off the top of the flag - no big deal, but you captured it all in the original.   Posted: 10/12/2026 12:14:19

Ghosting started in my LR processing. I'll go back, redo the photo, and see which slider caused that. Thank you.
I'll darken the green neo shirts but those neo shirts are meant to be seen hahaha!
I cropped the flag off to get it into a 16x9.
Thanks for your insights!
Below is my revamped image. The sky was the challenge on the smoke take.   Posted: 10/17/2026 14:22:34

A very strong image Trey, and as Gordon says, keeping the top of the flag in is the way to go. As is the sepia toning. But I do have one burning question. Am I the only one to think that the guy standing on the machine seems to be missing his head? I understand that he may be bending it down and if we look really closely, we can see what might be a tiny bit of the back of his cap, but in my opinion, he really does need a head.   Posted: 10/22/2026 10:16:14

Nice image Trey. I think the sepia tone was a good way to enhance the image. Was that machine actually running? It looks there is smoke coming out of the chimney exhaust?   Posted: 10/26/2026 15:07:55
