Original
About the Image(s)
This Fox in a hunting attitude was created at Yellowstone in January 2024 with a Nikon Z9 with the Nikkor prime Z 600 mm with the 1.4TC incorporated for a total of 840 mm. The fox was very far from us. The settings were ISO 140, f/8 and 1/800 sec.
The image was PP in LightRoom and cropped. The original out of camera, just reduced in size is attached as well.

Hi Isaac - Very sweet image of this little predator mid-leap! The snow and grass make a great foreground and background and the little dusting of snow on the nose lets us know what this creature has been doing. Very nice! Posted: 10/05/2026 13:04:55
Isaac, I wonder what he's found under the snow? Very nice action shot! And I like the gentle golden side light.
Good to see that that TC works well with the 600 PF. I've not yet tried the TC on this lens. Posted: 10/08/2026 02:49:16

Julia, it is not the Z 600 mm PF, it is the 600 mm f/4 with an 1.4x TC incorporated to the lens. Posted: 10/08/2026 12:26:13
Ah, I see. A wonderful lens. Posted: 10/09/2026 12:44:20
Isaac, I like how you froze the moment when this fox was intensely stalking its prey or whatever it has found in the snow. In spite of the big crop, the image is sharp. The lighting brings out the brown and orange texture of its coat and tail. Posted: 10/08/2026 19:17:33
Hi Isaac - you indicated you would add a fox image doing this last month - and this doesn't disappoint! Wonderfully captured with enough natural snowy setting to show the amazing conditions there. You were a long way off, but your gear and your pp did a great job of creating a sharp clear and interesting image. Posted: 10/16/2026 17:46:26
Hi Isaac, what a great capture! On my flight to NC, I enjoyed watching a documentary about Grand Teton National Park, where they filmed red foxes hunting little mice. It was so beautiful to watch!
You've captured this moment beautifully, showing the fox in its natural environment and making the most of the lovely light. Great work! Posted: 10/23/2026 14:11:47
