About the Image(s)
This is one of my attempts to take a different kind of lotus picture. I have a lot of portraits of lotus flowers in different kinds of light, so I was looking for something different. I took this overhead photo with an iPhone 12 because the only lens I had with me was a telephoto, which is necessary because the lotus ponds are very large at the Kenilworth Aquatic Gardens in Washington, DC. I took several different compositions but settled on this one because it reminded me of the shape and position of the sun in a drawing I probably made when I was very young.

I like this composition showing only a quarter of the lotus blossom. It leaves the imagination to fill in the rest of the flower. The colors works nicely together, too. If I were to make any suggestions, it would be to darken and saturate the upper right quadrant to be more similar to the lower part of the image. The bright white pulls my attention from the flower.   Posted: 10/02/2026 13:03:48
This is a very interesting point of view on the lotus. It's realistic but also a little abstract in my mind due to the way it's composed. I agree with David that the upper right quadrant draws the eye since it's so bright. But I do like that it's a different hue than the section below it. Maybe saturating or darkening just a bit but I like how the different sections add a graphic feel to your image.   Posted: 10/05/2026 12:49:49
This is an interesting photo that, to me, is an intersection between real and abstract. As per David, the crop leaves one to fill the picture. Great detail in the filaments and anthers. The 'pits' in the flower center add to the photo's abstract nature. Per David and Denise, a suggestion would be to lower the brightness of the bright whites in the background. I really like this photo!   Posted: 10/19/2026 18:43:28
I agree with mark being reel and abstract. Kind of like a hybrid. Great detail throughout. I agree the background is`a bit bright in the upper right background.   Posted: 10/21/2026 23:01:00
Hi Kim, I really like the composition of this shot of a lotus flower. Your close-up transforms it into an artistic interpretation that borders on the abstract. The little details and the colours create an interesting interplay throughout the image, and the transitions between the colours are absolutely beautiful. The only thing I would suggest correcting is the contrast between the pink petal and the pale pink area on the right. You could easily improve this by either darkening the lighter area or brightening the pink to create a better balance between the two tones.   Posted: 10/23/2026 13:17:05

Hello Kim. This is Georgianne Giese, from group 77. Your lovely image really popped up and caught my eye! This is like a painting, suitable as a room decoration, in my opinion.
I love the colors of that lotus, along with all the geometry in this image. You really caught it and framed your subject well. And yes, it reminds me also of the rising morning sun! Great job!   Posted: 10/27/2026 00:35:54
