Chris Prior
About the Image(s)
Canon 20D with Canon 400 f5.6 1/160sec f11 (minus 1 exposure compensation) ISO 400 on tripod
Opened as RAW image where I cropped out a fair amount to concentrate on the best section. Original attached so you can see extent of cropping. Decreased highlights and whites down slightly and increased shadows slightly before importing to PS. Converted to mono by creating a new fill adjustment layer and selecting SOLID COLOR (black) and COLOR blending mode on 100% opacity.

Great drama, Chris! The curved diagonals and the breaking waves surrounding the surfer make it very exciting for me.
Your mono conversion is good, as usual. I tried to follow your method in Affinity, but couldn't find the facility to make a "fill adjustment layer". Hence I come back to my usual method of a B&W adjustment layer.   Posted: 10/07/2026 06:26:06

Perfect for PTDW - don't change a thing!   Posted: 10/07/2026 21:38:16
A great capture of the surfer and major wave action. The sun on his face was an excellent addition.   Posted: 10/14/2026 17:00:12
This is an amazing wall hanger. Well done. The drama of the waves and the relative apparent calm of the surfer is great. The mono conversion is "spot on" with good detail in all the tones and good contrast between all picture elements. I am glad her butt didn't get covered by that wave. You will always treasure this.   Posted: 10/20/2026 23:18:10
