Stripes by Robert Barley

October 2026 - Stripes

About the Image(s)

Found at a local park. I like the similar graphic elements and the similar colors. It is also true that both the stripe and the cigarette have been well used.

An interesting visual puzzle. How did you notice the stripes? In your image they are subtle and invite speculation. The butt adds interest and color so at first that's all one sees. The image can generate lots of stories if one takes a little time with it.   Posted: 10/02/2026 18:38:33

Thank you. I agree. Those stripes are more evident when viewed from a little further away. They were painted on the surface several years ago so they are worn down quite a bit. If I were using Photoshop, I'd have added some white to the stripe, but that isn't as easy or successful (for me anyway) with mobile apps, so it's just the way I found it.

An interesting find. There are a lot of details and textures that lead the eye around the picture and then you land on the butt. I didn't see the horizontal stripes at first. It always pays to look down as you never know what you will find.   Posted: 10/10/2026 20:36:35

Thank you. The dilemma was that if I pulled back enough to show the white strip more clearly, the butt would become insignificant. As I mentioned to Dick, I could have added more white to the stripe, but that would have meant using Photoshop, and I'd rather not do that for this Phonography Group.

Hi, Susan. Thanks for dropping in to our Group, and thank you for your kind comment. Over the years I have found some odd things on the ground - like a single blue shoe in a bed of green grass - and they usually urge me pull out my 'phone for a snap.

I should look at the great photos in Group 86 more often. Thanks for the reminder.

Interesting idea and it's well executed. I'd like a very thin white border here.   Posted: 10/14/2026 17:06:10

To me photograph good example of seeing and capturing minimalism. Good eye for finding and capturing unique photo.   Posted: 10/16/2026 23:21:32

Thank you, Lynne. It was a "found" shot that caught my eye. I do wish the white stripe was more obvious, though. in these situations, we have to shoot what we find.
