The Pelican is a good subject for B&W, good textures and the colors work well. I think the highlights and shadows are handled ok, but I think you could get more detail out of the feathers on the body. This would help give the Pelican more contrast and pop a little bit more.   Posted: 10/09/2026 23:39:14

Nice treatment of the pelican in B&W.Good composition, placing the pelican in the frame with enough space at the top and the right.l too would like to see more contrast and saturation to bring out the texture in the feathers and the bill.   Posted: 10/16/2026 06:45:35

Cindy,
It took courage on your part to try the pelican in B&W. The colors on these birds really grabs your eye! As a B&W, you've got solid whites and blacks and lots of grays in between. Excellent. You also have the eye very sharp. My only suggestion would be the pose itself. The bird is facing away from the viewer. Had the bird turned slightly to its right then the bill would not merge with the neck.   Posted: 10/16/2026 21:01:35

I really like the B&W rendition of this subject. It grabs your attention right away. My first thought was, as David points out, the subject is looking away, but as I studied the image longer, I didn't find that objectionable. I do wish that you had a slight amount of detail in the neck, and the very top of the head. Thanks for sharing.   Posted: 10/23/2026 15:59:57

Cindy,

I really like this image. I like how you did black and white. I like the composition on the pelican. I find his positioning interesting as well as the sharpness of his eye. I was also drawn to the texture of the water when studying your image. Well done.   Posted: 10/23/2026 18:34:14

Birds are a great subject and a white bird is hard to photograph and not blow the highlights out. This image works well in a B&W. The details in the feathers are good and I do not mind the pose. Like Alan mentioned maybe a slight increase in contrast and maybe a tad increas in the exposure. Thanks for sharing.   Posted: 10/25/2026 21:20:03
