About the Image(s)
These are some tulips in my aunt's front yard - the sun was going down and creating some direct sunlight on the blooms, along with some deep shadows that I thought might create a good B&W image with the lines and texture. My adjustments were to switch to B&W with a red filter to create more contrast in the tones, and I cropped the image all the way around to bring the focus to the subject. I played with the contrast and had the blooms almost completely white, but came back to this version.
I am looking forward to the group's thoughts and suggestions, especially as regards the contrast.

I have always liked the concept of white flowers on a black background. This was, to my eye, a good choice for that. You asked for thoughts - as for composition I as I see it, a really good choice in your crop of the original. I also like how you darkened the background.
As for the contrast - as I see it, perfect! The detail in the texture in the petals is exquisite to me.
My only thought, and this is kind of nitpicking, would be to darken the background just a little more.
A very nice image Shari, thank you for sharing it with us.   Posted: 10/11/2026 16:34:39
I think the cropping is perfect, as is the contrast. What I like about the photo the most is the texture of the petals, almost clothlike, and also that there is a sense of motion in some of the petals, which adds to the interest in the scence.
Really nicely done all the way,
Rob
