About the Image(s)
This is a photo from Zabriskie Point in Death Valley just before sunrise. I normally do not take people pictures but I think including them in this image helps to tell the story.
Nikon Z8 at f/10, ISO 100, 61 mm (Nikkor Z 24-120 mm f/4 S). Everything post processing (except the stroke) was done in Lightroom Classic.

Bob, you have two winners, this month! The Showcase photo is wonderful. I'd like to learn more about that outing! And then this image...another great shot. I'm glad you included the two hikers. It gives your landscape a sense of depth and proportion. You bring us Light & Shadow, and Texture. Well done!   Posted: 10/03/2026 16:56:33
Thanks very much, Paul!   Posted: 10/03/2026 19:44:32
The is a gritty, strong, layered landscape with lots of wonderful tones and depths to view. The two people are the perfect position to enhance the image. The sky is just right. But then you look at the original and those colours are just wonderful and bring the mountains alive and that sky is spectacular. Great pair of images.   Posted: 10/11/2026 09:57:06
I agree, I like the color image too!   Posted: 10/11/2026 11:05:23
Bob - another great Zabriskie Point image (s). The mono is gritty, wild and dramatic of huge scale - and those 2 individuals really enhance it. I love how the 2 lighter rock arrears seem to led the eye to the central peak - which is precisely where the 2 are. They make the enormity of the landscape clear.
Your colour image is just as powerful - completely different and I think I actually prefer it because of your pre-sunrise sky.   Posted: 10/14/2026 21:20:00

I agree with all the comments. Both images are great (and also the one of the DD Showcase...). Colors are great and tone and texture also in this version.
Of course the two people give dimensions to the landscape.
There are maybe, just a personal opinion, too much in the center, but is there another choice, as there "have to be" at a place with the sky as background.   Posted: 10/15/2026 10:58:48

Bob, both images are a delight to view. I like that you got the two hikers at the peak as it gives perspective. The tonal quality is wonderful and depicts all the layers of the image. I like both versions...each is beautiful on its own. Very nice!   Posted: 10/17/2026 14:17:30
