October 2026 - Life cycle

About the Image(s)

Recently passing an old house which was being reconstructed, I was attracted to the yellow flower growing wild in front of a window. Seeing the various stages of growing and dying, I photographed a bigger area but cropped it to this. For some reason it has become one of my favourite images of 2026 - perhaps it's the simplicity and the story.

Very effective, story-telling image. I like the balance of the composition - the bright yellow flower at bottom right balanced by the muted reflection at top left, and the same with the bright wall or window frame on the right. And of course, the decaying, shedding flower that makes the caption so apt!   Posted: 10/18/2026 13:30:42

I like the depth in the image as portrayed by the various stages of the flower heads. The large yellow flower anchors the subject and the soft background brings emphasis to the foreground. Well done.   Posted: 10/22/2026 15:45:40

Good composition and color. It conveys the life cycle very well with the stages of decomposition. Great story.   Posted: 10/23/2026 17:13:13

I like the composition, with the strong diagonals and verticals, all reinforced by reflections. I also enjoy how this captures all the stages of blooming. I do get hung up, though, on the question of where the main flower lower right comes from. I see no stem!   Posted: 10/25/2026 02:11:42
